My first words

Maybe you know that particular feeling that you get when you have to write the very first SMS to a man. You want to speak to this person, you want to have a talk with him... You only have seen some photos of him, you only have heard somebody speak about him...
At first you get his number, and then you are thinking the whole week what to write, because you don't want to scare him, you want to be nice. Because you know he is a person you need. He is actually much older than you. But that's no problem.
I sent one message to the person I think I really need, a few seconds ago. I am waiting for his answer now. He is a very important person in my life I think. That message has to be well thought-out, simply because this man is my father. And it were my very first words to the father.

civics

After preparing for the PC2 I think I would be able to pass the Naturalization Test (http://www.uscis.gov/sites/default/files/USCIS/Office%20of%20Citizenship/Citizenship%20Resource%20Center%20Site/Publications/PDFs/M-623_red_slides.pdf) and become a naturalized US citizen. The other requirements are:
  • English test
  • one have to be a permanent resident for at least 5 years and meet all other eligibility requirements.
OK, challenge accepted!

Suggestive pictures

Recently I have learned a new word: suggestive. According to the Merriam Webster dictionary & thesaurus, one of its meanings is "provoking a memory or mental association".
This can be illustrated by some pictures of Georgia O'Keeffe who was an artist of the American modernism. Her flowers are the most well-known paintings that are suggestive.

Sometimes we are fearless

Have you ever been drunk? :) I think that you have. But have you ever mentioned that the state of intoxication can affect your ability to speak languages?
4 years ago I was in Hungary. Once me and my friend went out. We were drunk but not dead drunk. In the club I met one boy from Switzerland and we started to speak German. (German is not my mother tongue). I noticed that I was speaking German fluently, I understood everything and had no problem with expressing myself in a very eloquent way.

As I can see, we can speak foreign languages better when we are drunk because we have less fear of making some mistakes (grammar, vocabulary) and as a result all the words you know (and you don't know) occured to you, these words are getting connected to the sentence and you are able to produce every thought. 2 years ago I was at the party of my friend in Austria and was speaking German with some people. I explained how the Gothic words such as "slepan" developed (I have no idea why this topic!). It is called "consonant shift". The sound "p" became "f" in German etc. I was wondered what words I was using... I think I had never read or heard them before but I pronounced them correctly and it was appropriate.

I am quite sure if I were drunk now I could write a more cohesive and better post ;)

What is your wish for the next Christmas?

After our English course I went to the "Libelle" party, which had started at 18:00 but I only appeared at 20:30 and actually there were not as many people as there were at the beginning... But I met one boy who is a columnist in the "Libelle" and his column is "Alltag"(everyday life). This person deeply impressed me. He is more clever and intelligent than the most guys of the Facebook generation. He knows everything about everything. He really keeps up the conversation about any topic: from phonetical features in Russian, which is spoken in the city Lugansk, to the migration problems. But this young man is blind. As I understood from his article, he only can distinguish dark and light. AND this person can answer every question...
The thought of the day is, the majority of us really has abilities to see, hear and move and we do not use them as much as we could. We could read lots of books but we would rather chat with our "friends"on Facebook...

In my childhood I really loved one cartoon film called "Rainbow flower" (here is the script of the cartoon in English). The heroine is a little girl at a age of 5 or 6 and she got a magic rainbow flower, which can fulfill wishes, any wish that only crosses your mind, but only 7 pieces. I was 4 or 5 when I first saw it and my favorite part was when the girl gets all the toys in the city (I was young and stupid).
So the girl in the cartoon spent 6 magic petals for some kind of shit trifle (toys, "trip" to North Pole, a broken vase) and then for the last one she wished her new friend (who actually could not walk) could walk again. Her wish came true! As the last wish was sensible, the last petal turned back, and she got a new rainbow flower. This cartoon is very touching such as my evening today. I really want to have this flower, or only 4 petals of it! I really want blind people to see, deaf people to hear, people who cannot walk to walk and that people who are sick to be health! These are my wishes for this Christmas (or as soon as I find necessary petals).

Fly, petal, oh-
East to West you go.
Then North to South
And turn about.
Touch the ground, do,
Make my wish come true.
MAKE ALL THE PEOPLE BE HEALTH AND HAPPY!

Here is the cartoon in Russian. You have the script and can watch the video with.

This is the life

Six years ago one friend of mine read in a newspaper an advertisement about a journalism school which was organized by the faculty of philology and arts of the St Petersburg State University. She really wanted to be a journalist and she really wanted to take part in this school. But as she was afraid to go on her own to the other side of the city, she asked me if I could go with her. I agreed. So we went to the first class together. There was only general information about the school and we also received some tasks which we had to do at home and bring next time. And the next time, after the analysis of our homework, they said who "passed" and could study in this school. I was surprised to hear my name because I only went to this school with my friend for company... So I began to study in this journalism school. It was really enjoyable.
I did very interesting interviews and they were also published, for example, an interview with a very famous russian cook Ilja Laserson
I also worked some years as a club photographer and did many photoshoots for russian stars, on the right on the photo is Timati (maybe you've heard something about him), a very famous rapper with Masha Shoki (she is also famous, she owns an internet video channel).

It sounds quite good, isn't it? BUT I decided to study linguistics and languages and then economics...

5 years passed after my decision and last week was published my first article in German, in the magazine for students "Libelle" (on pages 20-21).

I never know why it is so but I know that everybody has some tasks in his life which will be done independent if he wants to do them or not.

PS my friend didn't pass...

Be careful!

Read every instruction twice: once for the first time you see it and before the actual use.
Sometimes I hate this system of "independence", which is very difficult to get used to.

I got the results of my electronic exam in Accounting, for which errors I would like to have a look. Below the results was written the date and the time of the possibility to check what had I done wrong (Einsichtnahme). However, I didn't click on the 'directions to this Einsichtnahme' and as it turned out, it was necessary to enter it until Saturday 12:00. Well, thought I yesterday at midnight, I write them an e-mail, but I'll go tomorrow to 8 o'clock, to the beginning. On the halfway I'm getting the answer that I am a very bad girl that I have written them too late but it's still possible to get an appointment (Termin) at 9:30.
Of course I am very happy that I have still got this possibility to take a look at my exam.

I think they also could send additional information about these examinations and such people like me could avoid problems like that. But probably I just want too much.

What do they really want from me?

Also today I have received a letter from the organizing committee "Sochi 2014". They are happy to report that I have successfully passed their choice. Here I quote: "Sochi is telling you YES! From now you are the volunteer in these Olympic Games. Welcome to our friendly team!"

There is a feeling that they have many obvious problems with the number of volunteers because I only did some first tests (and then I simply changed my mind), and then I ignored all the e-mails from this committee. Probably in the final trials they tested my ability to keep silence.

Even if...

... and even if you have missed the bus and now you are late for your class standing at the bus stop and waiting. Look around and realize that your dreams come true. The main thing is to can wait. We have got summer. Summer has come! I mean all the dreams can come true!
